August 2006

Yes, it’s time to talk about that great time suck – television.

Yes, I’ll get around to comic reviews someday.

For now, here’s recommended TV shows from Dave.

Dave’s TV Picks of late (all active shows, if we get into already dead-and-planted shows, this list will get WAY too LONG…) include

I have discovered the best waste of time… ever.

It’s a virtual home of MANY of the old Apple IIe games from my childhood. All in one place.

Happy Birthday Auntie Lyn!  We miss you!

Happy Birthday Lyn!

Love, Snickers and Peanut

We love Auntie Lyn!

This past weekend we had some of our old and new friends over for BBQ.  As the afternoon went along, it just struck me that many of our friends have little wee ones at home.

But this photo wins the prize for today.  In the middle are my college roommates Angie and Molly playing with their respective little girls, Olivia and Abbie, with our new friends, Ben and Lauren, and their little girl Mirabelle aka Belly.

And Dave is on the left looking very confused.  I love it…absolutely priceless!

August 27 grill party!

Dave and I are die-hard fans of The Amazing Race.  I cannot wait for 8:30 pm on Sunday, September 17, as Season 10 of the greatest show on earth begins.

We were first introduced to the show a few years ago when my friend Katrina called me up and said that there was a reality travel show where the contestants would have to go to the Philippines and put together a jeepney, and then plow through a field with a carabao in tow.  I had heard about the show in previous seasons, but it didn’t sound too compelling at that point (and I was invested in other quality shows at the time like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette), but because they were going to the Philippines, I thought I’d give it a peek.

I was instantly hooked.  (more…)

Grr. 😦

Saturday was definitely not a fun day. From working extra hours at work to coming back to my hybrid in SF only to find that my car was broken into and my cellphone, pager and sunglasses were taken (filed a police report ON-LINE, because the cops can’t be bothered to come out to CITY HALL on McAllister and Polk), let’s just say I wish I could get a do-over.

The good news is that I managed to get everything replaced today, managing to dodge getting gouged by the local Honda dealer (window+frame vs. just the window — BIG difference), but it took most of the day to get things taken care of at the body shop.

I did, however, get to see the Likha Pilipino Folk Ensemble in SF with Valerie right before the car craziness. The costume director of Likha was our wedding coordinator… whom Val and I both call “Cousin Warren”.

Those of you at the wedding would recognize him as the guy who saved me from passing out with the strategic placement of a pillow during one of the longer kneeling parts of our ceremony. Since I wasn’t raised Catholic, I hadn’t quite figured out that if you lock your legs during the kneeling parts, you can actually deny your brain some blood. Oops.

Back to Likha — the costumes were great and the dancing interesting, even if I couldn’t necessarily “figure out” the stories behind each dance.

One thing I’ve also loved are the movies that are “so bad, they are good, but not for their original intent”.

Usually this involves sci-fi movies, but not necessarily.

Here’s Dave’s Suggested Viewing List for those that appreciate unintentional humor and pain in their movie watching:
